Winning project named for the Reussbühl West district
Lucerne - The project “Habitat – Quartier im Hain” has emerged victorious for the study contract in connection with the Reussbühl West district of Lucerne. When the energy service provider CKW moves out of its location here, a lively neighborhood is to be created across the 27,000 square meter site.
The assessment committee for the study contract for the redesign of the CKW site in Reussbühl, which is today used for commercial and industrial purposes, unanimously decided in favor of the “Habitat - Quartier im Hain” project. This proposal was developed by the Zurich-based architects Salewski Nater Kretz in collaboration with the Office of Living Things and Büro Dudler for land use and traffic planning.
According to a CKW press release, the 27,000 square meter plot is to be “transformed into an attractive, lively and distinctive city neighborhood”. The energy service provider will move out of its location in this area “in a few years”. In the call for tenders, requirements were defined with regard to heat generation and rainwater management. In addition, at least half of the CKW shed hall, a former silk mill, must be retained. Residential buildings will primarily be built on the remaining area.
The winning project “impressed owing to its reinterpretation and further development of the historical landscape”, which was once characterized by floodplains and water-using industry. The design according to what is known as the sponge city principle “cleverly” incorporates these historical references. In the coming months, this project will be further developed and forms the basis for the Reussbühl West development plan. The designs of all planning teams will be on display at CKW in Rathausen in the canton of Lucerne from June 21 to July 4.
